How it works

This free typing speed test runs entirely in your browser using a random set of common words and a fixed 60 second timer. As you type, the tool scores each completed word against the target sequence and updates your live words per minute and accuracy.

Nothing is uploaded or stored. The test logic and scoring happen locally in JavaScript, so it is fast, private, and works on both desktop and mobile browsers.

How is my WPM calculated?

Each correctly typed word counts as its length plus one space, divided by five, measured over the elapsed minutes. Incorrectly typed words earn no credit, so a mistake costs you both time and score.

When does the 60 second timer start?

The countdown begins on your first keystroke, not when the page loads. You can read the words and settle in for as long as you like before you start typing.

What is the difference between the display modes?

Hide words shows one target word at a time, See less shows a short scrolling window of upcoming words, and See more shows the full word stream. Scoring is identical across all three, so pick whichever you find easiest to follow.

Does the test correct my spelling?

No. Autocorrect, autocapitalize, and spellcheck are turned off on the input, so your raw typing is measured exactly as entered. A word only counts if it matches the target exactly.
